Tata Power Delhi Distribution Ltd (Tata Power DDL) has achieved 100 per cent compliance of its renewable purchase obligation (RPO), a statement by the power utility said.
In a release, Tata Power DDL said that it sourced more than 2,000 MU (million units or million kwh) of green energy from renewable sources like solar, wind, hydropower (including large hydropower) and waste-to-energy. The utility thereby fulfilled its RPO for FY21 through physical purchase of renewable energy, without resorting to purchase of Renewable Energy Certificates (REC). This green energy purchase accounted for around 25 per cent of the total electricity sold by Tata Power DDL to its consumers, in its command area.
Tata Power DDL has achieved full RPO compliance entirely through purchase of green power, without dealing in RECs.
After discharging the obligation for FY21, Tata Power-DDL has become a fully RPO compliant power distribution company. All past RPO obligations also stand discharged by the company during the respective financial years.

Speaking on the development, Ganesh Srinivasan, CEO, Tata Power-DDL, said, “We have made adequate tie-ups for meeting the future RPO targets as well. As a progressive step towards providing opportunity to non-open access consumers to use renewable energy, we have already approached the regulator for devising mechanism by way of ‘Green Tariff’ so that renewable sources are utilised for sourcing power. These initiatives not only provide financial benefits to the consumers by reducing power purchase cost but also contribute significantly in conserving our environment.”
