Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) has made more inroads in the intrastate power transmission space by winning a project in Uttar Pradesh.
In a brief stock exchange communication, PGCIL has said it has been declared successful bidder under the tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) mechanism to develop an intrastate power transmission scheme in Uttar Pradesh, on build, own, operate and maintain (BOOM) basis.
The project involves construction of 400/220/132kV GIS Substation, Mohanlalganj (Lucknow) with associated 400kV lines, and other 765kV and 400kV LILO lines at 765kV GIS Substation Rampur and 400kV LILO (Quad Moose on Monopole) at 400kV GIS Substation Sector 123 Noida.
Though no more details were divulged in the PGCIL communication, T&D India has gathered additional information from other official agencies involved.
In February 2021, Uttar Pradesh Power Transmission Corporation Ltd (UPPTCL) had appointed PFC Consulting Ltd as the bid process coordinator (BPC) for the purpose of selection of the bidder as transmission service provider (TSP) to establish the aforementioned transmission scheme, using the TBCB route.
Accordingly, in June 2021, PFC Consulting Ltd incorporated a wholly-owned subsidiary “Mohanlalganj Transmission Ltd”. This company will act as a special purpose vehicle to develop the transmission scheme.
PGCIL has been now declared as successful bidder following a global competitive bidding process. PFC Consulting Ltd handed over the letter of intent to PGCIL, on May 12, 2022.
This scheme, estimated to cost around Rs.950 crore, would be an intrastate project aimed at improving the transmission network in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.
This is the second intrastate power transmission scheme for PGCIL in Uttar Pradesh. In August 2021, PGCIL completed a project housed under project SPV “Jawaharpur Firozabad Transmission Ltd”. This scheme entailed evacuation of power from the under-construction 2×660-mw Jawaharpur thermal power station at Malawan in Etah district of Uttar Pradesh. The coal-fired power plant based on supercritical parameters is being developed by Jawaharpur Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of state power generation utility Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Ltd.
