GMR Smart Electricity Distribution Pvt Ltd (GSEDPL) has received the formal letters of award for the earlier-announced smart metering projects in Uttar Pradesh.
In recent stock exchange filings, GSEDPL said that it has received the formal letters of award from UP state discoms — Dakshinanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Ltd and Purvanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Ltd – for smart metering projects under RDSS, aggregating over 75 lakh smart meters.

These Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) projects shall include supply, installation, integration, commissioning and O&M of smart meters on DBFOOT basis backed by state-of-the-art technology and software solutions for end-to-end automated system management. The project will be executed under Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) and is expected to reduce the AT&C losses in the designated area and improve operational and collection efficiency of UP discoms.
In an independent communication, GMR Power & Urban Infra Ltd (GPUIL) said that it has acquired 100 per cent equity stake in GMR Smart Electricity Distribution Pvt Ltd (GSEPDL) from another GPUIL subsidiary named GMR Generation Assets Ltd (GGAL).
GSEPDL was already a subsidiary of GPUIL where GPUIL had held 82 per cent. This holding has now increased to 100 per cent.
GSEDPL was originally incorporated as GMR Mining & Energy Pvt Ltd, for carrying on the business of power distribution including smart metering business.
