Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) has announced the winning of an order worth over Rs.6,100 crore from NTPC Ltd.
In a stock exchange communication, BHEL said that it has received an order valued at over Rs.6,100 crore (exclusive of GST) from NTPC Ltd.
The order is for EPC package for the 1×800-mw Sipat supercritical thermal power project (Stage III) in Bilaspur district, Chhattisgarh.
The mandate, inclusive of supply of equipment (boiler & turbine-generator), erection, commissioning and civil works, was won through international competitive bidding, BHEL said.
The order is scheduled for completion by around September 20, 2028, which is 48 months from the date of notification of award of September 20, 2024.
According to information available from NTPC, the Sipat thermal power plant currently has an installed capacity of 2,980 MW coming from two units 500-MW each and three supercritical units of 660 MW each. These units were commissioned during the period May 2007 to June 2012.
The Sipat plant, post expansion, will have installed capacity of 3,780 MW, coming from six units of which four would be based on supercritical technology.
The Sipat power plant currently serves the western region including Maharashtra, Goa, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and UT of Dadra Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu.
As of June 30, 2024, NTPC Group had a total installed power generation capacity of 76,048 MW of which NTPC Ltd owned 59,168 MW with the remaining 16880 MW belonging to joint ventures and subsidiaries.
As of the same date, NTPC Group had 21,029 MW of power generation capacity under construction. Of this coal-based plants accounted for 9,560 MW (45 per cent), hydropower (2,255 MW or 11 per cent) and renewable energy (9,214 MW or 44 per cent).
The entire upcoming coal-fired power capacity of 9,560 MW will be based on supercritical or ultra supercritical (USC) technology. In fact, USC technology had a dominant share of 86 per cent in the total upcoming coal-fired power capacity of NTPC Group.
