Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) has received the letter of intent (LoI) for an EPC mandate worth around Rs.7,500 crore in Gujarat.
In a regulatory filing, BHEL said that it has received the LoI from Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Ltd (GSECL) for the EPC package for the 1×800-MW Ukai Extension Unit No.7 thermal power station (TPS) in Tapi district of Gujarat.
The order, won under international competitive bidding, is scheduled to commission in 54 months, and is valued at around Rs.7,500 crore (excluding taxes and duties).
The EPC mandate will cover supply of main plant equipment (boiler, turbine & generator) and associated auxiliaries with electrical, controls & instrumentation (C&I) and balance-of-plant package.
According to information available independently, the Ukai TPS is located near Ukai Dam on Tapi River in Tapi district of Gujarat. Till March 31, 2027, the Ukai coal-fired power plant had a total installed capacity of 1,350 MW coming from six units – all commissioned by BHEL during the period March 1976 to June 2013.
On April 1, 2017, the first two units – each of 120 MW – were retired from service and the plant’s current capacity stands at 1,110 MW.
Unit No.7, which has been now been mandated on BHEL, will be a 800-MW supercritical power unit and will take the total capacity of Ukai TPS to 1,910 MW.
GSECL has planned to put up similar 800-MW units at its some of its other thermal power plants like Gandhinagar and Sikka.
