KP Energy Ltd has said that it has completed a 220kV double-circuit power transmission line that will facilitate energy evacuation from wind farms in the Kutch region of Gujarat.
The completion of this line during Q2 (July to September) of FY21 has been a “noticeable achievement” for the company, KP Energy said in an investor presentation.
The 220kV line consists of two independent circuits, each capable of handling 300 mw of wind power transfer capacity. The double-circuit line travels around 76 km from the 300-mw Gadhsisa wind farm site up to Power Grid Corporation of India’s substation at Nirona in the Kutch region of Gujarat.
The charging of this long overdue and most challenging line has paved the way for closing pending accounting reconciliation with GE and for adjusting debts taken by KP Energy to meet cost overruns, KP Energy said.
According to information available with T&D India, the 300-mw Gadhsisa wind farm is being developed by ReNew Power. The turnkey order to set up the wind farm was placed on GE Renewable Energy in December 2018. The wind farm will be equipped with 120 units of GE2.5-132 turbines. Subsequently, GE and KP Energy entered into an agreement that mandated several pre-project and construction activities on KP Energy.
The first circuit of the double-circuit Gadhsisa-Nirona transmission line will enable power evacuation from the 300-mw Gadhsisa wind farm. The line is supported by a 220/33kV pooling substation and associated infrastructure. Incidentally, the first phase of 50 mw of the 300-mw Ghadsisa wind farm is now operational. The rest of the capacity is under completion stage, it is learnt.
The second circuit is now completely laid and will support evacuation from the 300-mw Vanki wind farm project. It is learnt that the Vanki project will be developed by KP Energy Ltd itself, in association with a potential development partner. The process of identifying the partner is under due diligence currently. The Vanki wind farm will be developed by the acquisition of all the pre-identified privately held land parcels to avoid any regulatory delays and can be energized by 2022, KP Energy said.
KP Energy Ltd is a Gujarat-based balance-of-plant solution provider to the wind industry, engaged from conceptualization till the commissioning of the wind asset. Currently, company’s physical order book position is worth 1,000.8 mw that will be executed over the next two and a half years.
KP Energy is also an independent power producer with a current portfolio of 8.4 mw. It also takes operations and maintenance (O&M) of wind farms, the current portfolio of which is around 200 mw. Much of KP Energy’s activity is in the EPCC segment where it undertakes activities like site identification, site preparation, permits and approvals, construction and erection, power evacuation, etc.
