Larsen & Toubro has won a major order from Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd (NPCIL) for the Kudankulam nuclear power plant in Tamil Nadu.
In a stock exchange communication, L&T said that its construction arm has won a “significant” order in relation to Unit-5 and Unit-6 of the Kudankulam nuclear power plant. The mandate is for civil works related to the main plant of the upcoming nuclear power plant, and the scheduled completion time is 64 months.
The Kudankulam nuclear power project will be using, for the first time in India, light-water reactors (LWR). The plant is designed to have a total capacity of 6,000 mw spread over six units of 1,000 mw each.
The scope of works includes construction of the reactor building, reactor auxiliary building, turbine building, diesel generator building and other safety related structures.
L&T added that it was currently executing similar works at Unit-3 and Unit-4 of the Kudankulam project, in the same premises.
