According to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the state, over the past four years, has moved towards self-reliance in the power sector.
The CM, on March 6, 2021, inaugurated two 220kV substations and nine 132kV substations, envisaging a total investment of Rs.1348 crore. Yogi also laid the foundation stone of ten 220kV substations and six of the 132kV type. These substations belong to state utility Uttar Pradesh Power Transmission Corporation Ltd (UPPTCL).
Over the past four years, the state’s power transmission capacity has increased by 53 per cent to 25,000 mw, it is learnt.
Several transmission works costing Rs 6,100 crore are currently being executed through public private partnership mode in the state, it is further reported.
The substations inaugurated will improve power distribution in Bulandshahr, Muzaffarnagar, Ayodhya, Chitrakoot, Sitapur and Mirzapur. The substations for which foundation stones were laid are in Lucknow, Varanasi, Fatehpur, Gonda, Jhansi, Farrukhabad, Agra, Saharanpur,Meerut, Maharajganj, Bhadohi, Firozabad, Basti, Banda, Baghpat and Kushinagar.
Transmission Capacity
According to information released by UPPTCL, the total transformation capacity of grid substations (above 132kV rating) was 76,328 MVA as of March 31, 2016. This rose by 60 per cent to reach 1,22,130 MVA, as of March 31, 2020.
