Adani Energy acquires Mahan intrastate scheme in MP, under TBCB

Adani Energy Solutions Ltd (AESL) has formally acquired “Mahan Transmission Ltd” – a project SPV for development of an intrastate transmission system (InSTS) scheme, from bid process coordinator REC Power Development & Consultancy Ltd (RECPDCL).

In a stock exchange communication, REC Ltd said that its subsidiary RECPDCL successfully completed the transfer of Mahan Transmission Ltd to Adani Energy Solutions Ltd today (March 26, 2025).

AESL emerged as the successful developer of this scheme under the tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) framework, with RECPDCL acting as the bid process coordinator.

As reported by T&D India on February 19, 2025, AESL along with three other bidders – Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL), Megha Engineering & Infrastructures Ltd (MEIL) and KCC Buildcon Pvt Ltd – were qualified for opening of initial price bids.

“Mahan Transmission Ltd” will develop an intrastate scheme officially termed as “Development of intrastate transmission system for evacuation of 1,230 MW power (MPPMCL portion) through STU network from proposed 2×800-MW thermal power project of Mahan Energen Ltd (MEL).”

Mahan Energen Ltd (MEL) is a subsidiary of Adani Power Ltd and the InSTS scheme under discussion relates to evacuation from the capacity expansion of 2×800-MW at the Mahan power plant. The InSTS scheme mainly involves building two 400/220/132kV substations — one each at Rewa and Amarpatan – along with associated lines.

Second TBCB win in MP

For AESL, Mahan Transmission Ltd represents the second InSTS-TBCB win in Madhya Pradesh after “MP Power Transmission Package-II Ltd” that is currently under construction.

For Madhya Pradesh, this is the fourth intrastate scheme to be awarded under the TBCB modality. MP initiated the TBCB philosophy with the Bhind-Guna transmission scheme that has since been commissioned by PGCIL and housed under its subsidiary “Powergrid Bhind Guna Transmission Ltd.” Subsequently, Megha Engineering clinched “MP Power Transmission Package-II Ltd” that is currently under construction.

ISTS component of Mahan Energen

As reported by T&D India on March 26, 2025, AESL is also among the four contenders for an interstate transmission system (ISTS) scheme concerning the Mahan Energen thermal power plant. The scheme, incorporated under “MEL Transmission Ltd,” involves providing ISTS connectivity to the existing 1,200-MW Mahan thermal power plant owned by Mahan Energen Ltd, a subsidiary of Adani Power Ltd.
