Adani Energy formally acquires green hydrogen-related transmission scheme in Gujarat

Adani Energy Solutions Ltd (AESL) has formally acquired an interstate transmission system (ISTS) scheme for supplying RE power to green hydrogen manufacturing units in Gujarat, from bid process coordinator PFC Consulting Ltd (PFCCL).
Adani Energy Solutions emerged as the successful developer for this ISTS scheme under the tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) route.
The scheme known as “Transmission system for supply of power to Green hydrogen/ammonia manufacturing potential in Mundra area of Gujarat under Phase-I: Part B1 scheme (3 GW at Navinal substation)” is housed under project SPV “Mundra I Power Transmission Ltd,” incorporated as a wholly-owned subsidiary of PFCCL.
In a regulatory filing, PFCCL said that Mundra I Power Transmission Ltd was formally handed over to Adani Energy Solutions Ltd today (March 20, 2025). Details on AESL’s winning tariff are awaited.
As reported by T&D India on March 4, 2024, AESL was in the race for this project along side Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) and Resonia (formerly Sterlite Power).
Estimated to cost Rs.2,817 crore and with an implementation timeframe of 36 months, this ISTS-TBCB scheme seeks to provide an additional 3,000 MW to upcoming green hydrogen/ammonia units in Mundra region of Gujarat.
This will be achieved by augmentation of the upcoming Navinal (Mundra) GIS substation by 2×1500 MVA, 765/400kV interconnecting transformers (ICT). The scheme will also have a 765kV double-circuit line, of about 70 running km, connecting Navinal (Mundra) GIS substation to the 765kV Bhuj substation.
The Navinal (Mundra) GIS substation is coming up through another ISTS-TBCB scheme housed under “Navinal Transmission Ltd,” which, interestingly, is also being developed by Adani Energy Solutions Ltd.
Sixth ISTS-TBCB win in FY25
According to information available with T&D India, Mundra I Transmission represents the sixth ISTS scheme win for AESL, under the TBCB framework, in FY25 so far.
Before this, AESL has won the following ISTS-TBCB schemes:
- Khavda IV A Power Transmission Ltd
- Jamnagar Transmission Ltd
- Navinal Transmission Ltd
- Pune-III Transmission Ltd
- Rajasthan Part I Power Transmission Ltd
Upcoming PFCCL schemes
T&D India estimates that PFCCL currently has at least four ISTS-TBCB schemes that are expected to be formally transferred to the respective winning developers, in the coming weeks.
