The operational transmission network of Adani Energy Solutions Ltd (AESL) crossed 20,000 ckm , as of March 31, 2024.
According to a “provisional performance update” recently filed by AESL on stock exchanges, the company’s operational transmission line network reached 20,509 ckm as of March 31, 2024 — against 19,779 ckm as of March 31, 2023.
During Q4 (January to December) of FY24, AESL added 174 ckm to its operational transmission line portfolio. In the same period, it also fully commissioned the Khavda-Bhuj transmission line that is operated by “Khavda Bhuj Transmission Ltd” (KBTL), an ISTS-TBCB project.
According to estimates made by T&D India, during the entire FY24, AESL commissioned three ISTS-TBCB projects housed under Khavda Bhuj Transmission Ltd, Warora Kurnool Transmission and Karur Transmission Ltd. AESL also commissioned an important intrastate line in Maharashtra, housed under Kharghar Vikhroli Transmission Ltd.
Thanks to the several transmission projects commissioned in FY24, AESL’s operational transformation (substation) capacity also rose commensurately from 46,001 MVA as of March 31, 2023 to 57,011 MVA, as of March 31, 2024.
It may be mentioned that in FY24, according a special study by T&D India, a total of 23 ISTS-TBCB schemes were awarded in FY24 as against 18 in FY23.
Projects under construction
As of March 31, 2024, AESL had eight transmission projects under construction that included a mix of interstate and intrastate transmission system projects, both under the TBCB and RTM modalities. Besides, the company was also implementing several augmentation works under the RTM route.
As of given date, AESL was in the midst of building 3,073 ckm of transmission lines and 21,396 MVA of transformation capacity (see table), with an envisaged investment outlay of Rs.170 billion. In terms of transmission line length, AESL’s biggest project under construction is an InSTS-TBCB scheme in Madhya Pradesh, housed under “MP Power Transmission (Package 1) Ltd.” In terms of substation capacity, prominent projects are “WR-SR Transmission Ltd” and “KPS1 Transmission Ltd” – both ISTS-TBCB schemes.
Smart metering
During Q4 of FY24, AESL received a smart metering mandate from MSEDCL for the rollout of 1.7 million meters, with a revenue potential of Rs.21 billion. With this, the total smart metering portfolio of AESL, spread over five states, stood at 22.8 million meters with an aggregate investment outlay of Rs.272 billion. Most of these projects are part of the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) and are being implemented under the TOTEX model.
Though much of AESL’s smart metering portfolio was developed during FY24, AESL entered the smart metering domain with an order for 1.1 million meters from BEST Undertaking in October 2022.
