Adani Energy Solutions’ transmission portfolio crosses 21,000-ckm mark

Adani Energy Solutions Ltd has added 190 ckm of transmission lines during Q1 (April to June) of FY25, taking its operational transmission line portfolio to over 21,000 ckm as of June 30, 2024.

According to an operational results presentation filed on stock exchanges, this 190-ckm addition and with another 673 ckm coming from the acquisition of the Mahan-Sipat transmission assets of Essar Transco, AESL’s operational transmission line portfolio stood at 21,187 ckm, as of June 30, 2024. As of the same date in 2023, this portfolio was 19,778 ckm.

As of June 30, 2024, AESL had 57,186 MVA of transformation capacity through operational projects, as against 46,001 MVA as of June 30, 2023.

AESL’s power transmission portfolio – both operational and under development – is spread over 14 Indian states.

Speaking of under-construction transmission projects, AESL’s portfolio comprised eight TBCB projects aggregating 3,073 ckm of transmission lines and 21,571 MVA of transformation capacity. (This also includes small substation augmentation projects totaling 3,675 MVA under the RTM route). The eight TBCB projects had five interstate transmission system (ISTS) schemes and three intrastate transmission system (InSTS) schemes. (See table). The total project outlay of these under-construction schemes is an estimated Rs.17,100 crore.

In a media release, AESL said that it was on track to commission the TBCB projects housed under North Karanpura Transco Ltd, MP Power Transmission (Package II) Ltd, WR-SR Transmission Ltd and Khavda II-A Transmission Ltd, in the coming quarters. This would potentially add over 2,300 ckm of transmission lines and nearly 10,000 MVA of transformation capacity to AESL’s operational portfolio.

Meanwhile, AESL anticipates a near-term tendering pipeline of over Rs.90,000 crore of power transmission projects, under the TBCB mode, the company release said.

It is also reliably learnt that AESL has emerged L1 in an ISTS-TBCB project housed under “Khavda IV A Power Transmission Ltd” in Gujarat. However, the formal transfer of project SPV is yet pending.

Smart metering business

As of June 30, 2024, AESL’s smart metering portfolio (entirely under construction) stood at 22.8 million meters with an aggregate contract value of around Rs.27,195 crore.  These smart metering projects are spread over Maharashtra, Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar and Uttarakhand. “The metering deployment activity is ramping up well and we have achieved go-live status in three circles,” AESL said in its presentation.
