Adani Power signs supplemental PPA with Haryana discoms, cuts contracted capacity

Adani Power has signed supplemental power purchase agreements (SPPAs) with Haryana discoms, envisaging a net reduction in contracted capacity.

In a stock exchange filing, Adani Power said that it has signed SPPAs with Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam Ltd and Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam Ltd, in respect of its two existing power purchase agreements of net contracted capacity of 712 mw each (1,566 mw in aggregate at generation end), which is being supplied from the Phase-IV of 1,980 mw (3×660 mw) capacity of Adani Power’s 4,620-mw thermal power plant at Mundra, Gujarat.

Under the terms of the SPPAs, the net capacity contracted with the two Haryana discoms has been revised to 600 mw each, or 1,200 mw in aggregate (1,320 mw in aggregate at generation end), as delivered, considering availability of domestic coal linkage.

Further, the Haryana discoms will pay quoted energy charges for power generated from domestic coal under long-term fuel supply agreement (FSA), which shall continue to be proportionate to previous generation-end capacity of 1,566 mw

For power consumed beyond the domestic coal materialisation and availability, energy charge will be based on imported coal price linked to CERC escalation index, Adani Power said.

This development will thus give Haryana access to full capacity of 2×660-mw units on exclusive basis and will allow Adani Power to schedule power supply from Unit-3 of Phase-IV to other procurers, which will be pursued through bid opportunities in next few months.

Adani Power’s Mundra coal-fired power plant in Gujarat has a total installed capacity of 4,620 mw coming from nine units – four subcritical units of 330 mw each and five supercritical units of 660 mw each.

Power evacuation from the Mundra power plant to Haryana is made using a 500kV bipolar HVDC line, from Mundra (Gujarat) to Mohindergarh (Haryana), spanning around 990 km. This is the first HVDC line by any private player in India.
