Adani Power Mundra Ltd, a subsidiary of Adani Power Ltd, announced that one unit of at the Mundra thermal power plant in Gujarat has set a new national record by running continuously for 411 days.
The unit is question is “Unit-7” of the 4,620-mw supercritical power plant of Adani Power Mundra Ltd. The power plant is equipped with nine units—four subcritical units of 330-mw each and five supercritical units of 660-mw each. The Mundra power plant is located in Mundra taluka of Kutch district in Gujarat.
The record-breaking Unit-7 of Adani Power Mundra is still operational and continues to build on a new generation record, a release from Adani Power said.
The 660-mw supercritical generated 5,132 million kwh of electricity during this uninterrupted operation. What is even more remarkable is that the feat was achieved with 79.01 per cent PLF and zero specific oil consumption
“The continuous operation of the thermal unit, without any interruptions amidst a global pandemic speaks of the ability of our team to harness complexities of technology and amplify scale of operations involved in it”, said Anil Sardana, Managing Director, Adani Power Ltd.
Former record by Mundra Power
This was not the first record established by APL. Earlier, Mundra subcritical asset too had entered the record books. In 2017, one of the four subcritical 330-mw units at the Mundra power plant had created a similar national record of continuous running for 684 days.

According to the release by Adani Power, the earlier record of 410 days was held by a supercritical power unit of “TCPL” at Nellore. According to unconfirmed information available with T&D India, this unit belongs to Thermal Powertech Corporation Ltd, which is part of Sembcorp Energy India Ltd. In the Sembcorp Gayatri Power Complex, located in the SPS Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh, are housed four supercritical power units of 660-mw each. Two of these fall under Thermal Powertech Corporation Ltd and the two under NCC Power Projects Ltd.
