Adani Transmission Ltd, in an investor presentation, said that it added 372 ckm of transmission lines to its portfolio in the first quarter (Q1: April to June) of FY23, taking the total operational network to 18,795 ckm supported by transformation capacity of 40,001 MVA.
During the said quarter, the Obra-C Badaun project in Uttar Pradesh became fully operational while line commissioning work with respect to the Jam-Khambaliya project in Gujarat was completed.
During Q1 of FY23, Adani Transmission announced acquisition of Mahan Sipat Transmission Line from Essar Power for an enterprise value of Rs.1,913 crore. The transaction once completed will add 673 ckm to ATL’s operational portfolio.
The transmission line runs from Essar Power’s 1,200-mw Mahan power plant in Madhya Pradesh to the Sipat Pooling Station at Bilaspur in Chhattisgarh. Commissioned in September 2018, the Mahan-Sipat line is part of the interstate transmission scheme (ISTS) and facilitates evacuation from Essar Power’s 1,200 mw Mahan power plant in Madhya Pradesh.
As of June 30, 2022, Adani Transmission Ltd had around 4,187 ckm of transmission lines under various stages of construction (see table). This under-construction portfolio had ten projects, nine of which were under the tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) mechanism. One project – the Mumbai HVDC link – was under the regulated return model.

The biggest project under construction is an ISTS-scheme housed under Warora Kurnool Transmission Ltd, envisaging 1,756 ckm of transmission lines and 3,500 MVA of transformation capacity, with an overall investment of Rs.3,500 crore. The project, in the making since 2016, was originally to be developed by Essel Group. It was taken over by Adani Transmission Ltd in March 2021. The project has been facing delays due to land acquisition in coal-bearing areas of Western Coalfields and Singareni Collieries Company – both subsidiaries of Coal India Ltd. By current thinking, this project is now likely to commission by January 2023.
