Amp Energy India recently commissioned a 13.5-mw open access-based solar power project for Orient Cement, making it Amp Energy’s second in Maharashtra.
The 13.5-mw project located in Gourgaon village, district Osmanabad, will supply solar power to Orient Cement’s manufacturing facility in the same district.
Orient Cement has signed a power purchase agreement with Amp Energy India for procurement of solar power for 25 years.
With this project, Orient Cement will benefit from a reduction in overall energy costs as well as mitigation their carbon footprint. Through this partnership, Orient Cement will meet 50 per cent of its annual energy needs and significantly reduce its energy bills. The project will also help Orient Cement reduce about 15,595 tonnes of CO2 per year, a release by Amp Energy India ssaid.
“This partnership will provide the right impetus for other cement companies to transition towards 100 per cent renewable energy for reducing their energy costs and meeting their sustainability targets,” noted Pinaki Bhattacharyya, MD & CEO, Amp Energy India.
Amp Energy India has already developed large open access projects including the largest solar open access project in Maharashtra (30 mw), the first captive solar open access project in Uttar Pradesh (42 mw) and an open access project in Karnataka (30 mw).
According to information available from Amp Energy, the company, inclusive of the newly commissioned project in Maharashtra, has a total of six open-access solar projects with an aggregate installed capacity of around 175 mw. These are located in Maharashtra (30 mw and 13.5 mw), Uttar Pradesh (42 mw) and Karnataka (39 mw, 21 mw and 30 mw).
