ANDRITZ to supply electro-mechanical equipment for Kiru project

ANDRITZ has received an order from Chenab Valley Power Projects Pvt Ltd to supply the complete electro-mechanical equipment for the 624-mw Kiru run-of-river hydropower plant located on the Chenab River in Kishtwar district, Jammu & Kashmir.

The contract, with an order value of more than 50 million euros, comprises the supply, design, manufacturing, erection, testing and commissioning of four units (turbines and generators), auxiliary electrical and mechanical equipment as well as 400kV GIS and 400kV outdoor pothead yard equipment. The contract will be executed by ANDRITZ’s Indian subsidiary with manufacturing facilities in Mandideep (near Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh) and Prithla (near Faridabad, Haryana).

The Kiru hydropower plant addresses the energy deficiency in the northern part of India. It will bring clean renewable energy to the rural area and also enable industrial development in the region.

By securing this prestigious contract, ANDRITZ has yet again confirmed its position as a leading player in the hydropower market in India, a release from ANDRITZ observed.

It may be noted that international technology group ANDRITZ offers a broad portfolio of innovative plants, equipment, systems and services for the pulp and paper industry, the hydropower sector, the metals processing and forming industry, pumps, solid/liquid separation in the municipal and industrial sectors, as well as animal feed and biomass pelleting.

Chenab Valley Power Projects Pvt Ltd is a joint venture company between NHPC (49 per cent equity stake), Jammu & Kashmir State Power Development Corporation (49 per cent) and PTC India (2 per cent). It was formed in 2011 and has been entrusted with the task of harnessing the vast hydropower potential of river Chenab.

These projects, with aggregate installed capacity of 2714 mw, will be developed under the build, own, operate and maintain (BOOM) model. The Pakal Dul and Kiru projects are under active construction while the other two are currently in the planning stage.
