Bajel Projects Ltd has announced the winning of a major transmission line EPC order from Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL).
The order has been placed by “Kurnool-IV Power Transmission Ltd,” a TBCB subsidiary of PGCIL.
In a release, Bajel Projects said that the EPC order, to be completed in 23 months from the notification of award, involves building a 765kV double-circuit line from Kurnool-IV substation to Kurnool-III Pooling Station (PS), both extremities located in Andhra Pradesh. According to information available with T&D India, the length of this transmission line is around 250 ckm.
The order is valued at over Rs.400 crore, inclusive of GST.
Kurnool-IV Power Transmission Ltd is a subsidiary of PGCIL that is developing an interstate transmission (ISTS) scheme termed as “Transmission system for integration of Kurnool-IV REZ – Phase I (for 4.5 GW).”
PGCIL acquired this scheme on March 24, 2025 under the tariff-based competitive (TBCB) mechanism. The overall scheme involves establishment of a 4×1500 MVA, 765/400kV and 4×500 MVA, 400/220kV Kurnool-IV Pooling Station near Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh. It also includes 765kV transmission lines spanning 375 km from Kurnool-IV to Bidar, and 127 km from Kurnool-IV to Kurnool-III, along with other associated works.
Incidentally, another ISTS-TBCB scheme is in the making that will help evacuation of a further 3 GW from the Kurnool renewable energy zone (REZ). Termed as “Transmission system for Kurnool-IV REZ – Phase II (3 GW),” this scheme with an estimated cost of Rs.3,235 crore will be developed under the TBCB framework with PFC Consulting Ltd (PFCCL) acting as the bid process coordinator.
In early April 2025, Bajel Projects had announced that it had commissioned two important 400kV lines for PGCIL. Shortly before this, Bajel had announced the winning of an order relating to setting up power supply infrastructure for the upcoming Bhopal metro rail project in Madhya Pradesh.
