BHEL lands mega orders from Adani Power

Bharat Heavy Electricals has announced the winning of three mega orders related to supercritical thermal power plants, from Adani Power.

In a brief stock exchange filing, BHEL said that it has received three orders from Adani Power Ltd and its subsidiary Mahan Energen Ltd, for supply of main plant equipment (BTG: boiler, turbine & generator) and supervision of erection & commissioning, for the following three upcoming supercritical coal-based power projects:

 

 

The contract agreement for these projects was signed on August 25, 2024, BHEL said. The aggregate value of these three orders is over Rs.11,000 crore, exclusive of GST.

 

The scheduled completion for the three orders is 49 months (Kawai, Phase-II), 52 months (Kawai, Phase-III) and 55 months (Mahan, Phase-III).

According to information available from reliable sources, Adani Power’s Kawai coal-fired plant located in Baran district of Rajasthan currently has two 660-MW supercritical power units. Upon completion of Phase-II and Phase-III (awarded to BHEL), the total installed capacity of the Kawai plant will stand enhanced to 4,520 MW.

The Mahan plant in Singrauli district of Madhya Pradesh is owned by Mahan Energen Ltd, a subsidiary of Adani Power Ltd. Its current operational capacity is 1,200 MW, coming from two coal-fired units of 600 MW each. Under Phase-II expansion, currently underway, two ultra supercritical units of 800-MW are being installed. The contract placed on BHEL (discussed in this story) represents Phase-III, also of 2×800-MW.
