Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) registered its highest-ever annual order inflow in FY24.
In an investor presentation, BHEL said that its order inflow in FY24, at Rs.77,907 crore was the highest in any financial year, historically.
During Q4 (January to March) of FY24, BHEL reported order inflow of Rs.41,859 crore that was also the highest quarterly order inflow ever, and accounted for over half of the total FY24 order inflow.
As can be seen from the table alongside, the power sector accounted for 71.4 per cent of the FY24 order inflow, followed by the “industry” segment with 28.2 per cent and exports with 0.4 per cent.
Products and services related to power transmission and distribution fall under the “industry” segment while the “power” business typically pertains to power generation.
As of March 31, 2024, BHEL’s outstanding order book stood at around Rs.1,31,598 crore with the power sector commanding a share of 73 per cent (or Rs.96,731 crore). Industry followed with 24 per cent (or Rs.30,969 crore) while exports accounted for the remaining 3 per cent.
With respect to the power T&D segment, the BHEL investor presentation said that the company received orders for supply of several EHV substation packages in Q4 of FY24.
In the same period, BHEL also commissioned three EHV substations – Neemuch, Chittorgarh and Mandsaur – for the evacuation of renewable energy from the Neemuch Renewable Energy Zone (REZ) in Madhya Pradesh.
During FY24, BHEL spent Rs.698 crore on R&D-related activities, which was marginally higher by 1 per cent than the comparable Rs.691 crore in FY23. The presentation also mentioned that BHEL filed 543 patents in FY24 as opposed to 503 in FY23. Besides, revenue from R&D products, which stood at Rs.4,212 crore in FY23 rose by nearly 1 per cent to reach Rs.4,249 crore in FY24.
