Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) has reported a year-on-year decline of 8 per cent in its cumulative order inflow during the first nine months (April to December) of FY23.
In an investor presentation filed on stock exchanges, BHEL said that its overall inflow in the first nine months of FY23 stood at Rs.17,839 crore. This was 8 per cent lower than the comparable Rs.19,393 crore in FY22.
Much of the decline in order inflow was attributable to the power sector where order inflow fell by a sharp 23 per cent from Rs.16,684 crore in the April-December period of FY22 to Rs.12,826 crore in the same period of FY23.
As of December 31, 2022, BHEL’s total outstanding order book position stood at Rs.1,03,694 crore out of which power sector orders dominated with a share of 83 per cent (or Rs.86,127 crore). Industry had a share of around 12 per cent, followed by exports with 4 per cent.
During Q3 (October to December) of FY23, prominent orders received included 400/220kV GIS substation and 400kV bay extension works on turnkey basis. As far as project commissioning was concerned, a notable achievement during Q3 of FY23 was the achievement of full load of Unit No.1 of the 2×660-mw Maitree supercritical power project in Bangladesh.

New technology
During the first three quarters of FY23, BHEL completed manufacturing and testing of new design of the BHEL’s largest squirrel cage Induction Motor (630mm center height) for transformer test plant applications.
The Central PSU also completed design, manufacture, testing and supply of a new variant of 500 MVA, 400/220/33 kV, 3‐phase interconnecting transformer (ICT) for substation application
