To sharpen its focus on the national “AtmaNirbhar Bharat” mission, Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd has recently set up a new dedicated business vertical called “Make in India Business Development Group,” within the company.
This effort is aimed at ensuring full alignment of the company with the demands of the country under AtmaNirbhar Bharat and at the same time improving the capacity utilisation across the company, a BHEL statement said.
The group will bring together a number of initiatives taken by the company in recent times, in line with the objectives of ‘Make in India, Make for the World’ and AtmaNirbhar Bharat. These include:
This initiative is expected to significantly strengthen BHEL’s ongoing efforts to contribute to the AtmaNirbhar Bharat movement.
It may be recalled that BHEL has already taken several steps towards meeting the “AtmaNirbhar Bharat” vision. In May this year, the PSU engineering major invited expressions of interest from global manufacturing companies to leverage on BHEL facilities and capabilities to set up a manufacturing base in India as well as take up efforts towards indigenisation of the major imports especially in the capital goods sector. BHEL was set up in 1964 with the objective of achieving self-sufficiency in the power sector. The company’s manufacturing prowess spans the entire equipment manufacturing range of the power generation (coal, gas, lignite, hydro, nuclear, renewables) as well as power transmission. BHEL-supplied equipment contributes to over 50% of the power generated in the country.
Over the years, the company has diversified into a range of engineering and manufacturing activities for the core sectors of the economy including for transportation, defence, aerospace, water, oil & gas, etc., and has been a leader in indigenous manufacturing in the country, the release added.
