Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) has won a major order from NLC India for an EPC package for the upcoming Talabira thermal power project in Odisha.
In a stock exchange communication, BHEL said that it has won an EPC package for NLC India’s upcoming 3×800-mw Talabira ultra supercritical thermal power project coming up in Odisha’s Jharsuguda district.
The order, valued at over Rs.15,000 crore (excluding taxes) will cover supply of main plant package (boiler, turbine and generator) as well as associated auxiliaries. It will also entail control & instrumentation (C&I), balance of plant and civil works.
Major equipment for the order will be manufactured at BHEL’s Trichy, Haridwar, Hyderabad, Jhansi, Bengaluru, Ranipet, Bhopal, Rudrapur, Varanasi plants, BHEL said.
The order is scheduled to commission over the next 64 months. The first unit of the 3×800-mw plant is expected to commission in FY29.
According to information available from NLC India, this order was awarded to BHEL after an international competitive bidding process.
The boilers will be designed to suit co-firing of biomass, it is learnt. To comply with latest environment-related guidelines, the plant will be equipped with pollution-control measures like flue gas desulphurization (FGD) and selective catalytic reduction (SCR) systems.
Plant details
The entire power generated from the 3×800-mw plant will be supplied to Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Kerala and Puducherry, for which PPAs have already been executed. Power evacuation will take place through the interstate transmission system (ISTS) network, in conjunction with intrastate grids.
Coal will be supplied from NLC India’s Talabira II & III open-cast mines spread over Jharsuguda and Sambalpur districts of Odisha. Water will be supplied from the Hirakud reservoir in Odisha.
