Plastic can define a sustainable roadmap for efficient equipment
Part of the diversified Calco Group, Calco Poly Technik is a global player in the field of high performance engineering plastic catering to the automotive, electrical and electronics industry. We have Vijay Kumar Gupta discussing in detail the role of plastic in the electrical equipment like switchgear and lighting devices. With increasing adoption of environment-friendly polymers, Gupta feels that conventional heavy metal parts are being rapidly replaced by plastic, giving benefits of higher productivity and lower cost of production.

Vimal Kejriwal, MD & CEO, KEC International Ltd, speaks to T&D India about his company’s power transmission contracts in Brazil.
Tell us about your operations in Brazil’s power transmission sector.
We have completed seven projects in Brazil, with a significant number of projects currently under execution. Some of our key projects executed include transmission line projects in Serra Azul, Salto Apiacás and Delfina for Enel Green Power and a project in Barreiras for São Pedro Transmissora. We are now executing a 500kV project in Sapeaçú-Poções for Tropicália Transmissora, which is one of the large EPC orders secured in recent months.
KEC International has expanded its strong global EPC expertise in the Americas through its wholly-owned subsidiary SAE Towers, which operates Brazil and Mexico. SAE Towers is one of the world’s largest producers of steel lattice towers for high-voltage power transmission, with an annual production capacity of over 100,000 tonnes.
Telangana utilities have proved all apprehensions wrong: TSTRANSCO

When Telangana was carved out of erstwhile Andhra Pradesh in June 2014, there was widespread that the fledgling state would experience severe power shortage. However, D. Prabhakar Rao, CMD, Transmission Corporation of Telangana Ltd (TSTRANSCO), tells T&D India how TSTRANSCO and other state power utilities, with the help of the Union government, have created a situation of power adequacy in the southern state. Rao also explains how e-procurement has helped TSTRANSCO as well as power utilities in general, to improve transparency and shorten project gestation periods.

Earlier this year, Siemens developed two compact and light-weight vacuum circuit breakers (VCB) augmenting its popular SION range of switchgear. In the backdrop of these launches, called SION Lateral 3AE61 and 3AE63, T&D India interacted with Bernhard Boes, who is part of Siemens’ switchgear business, to understand these new offerings and also to seek insights into the vacuum circuit breaker business.
