Direct tariff electricity subsidies from state governments have increased 32 per cent since FY16, amounting to Rs.110,391 crore (USD 14.96 billion) in FY19, according to an independent report (Unpacking India’s Electricity Subsidies) recently released today by the Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW) and the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD).
