Siemens and Iljin Electric, a Korean manufacturer of electrical systems and gas-insulated switchgear (GIS), have signed an agreement to develop an SF6-free GIS for the 170kV voltage level. The technology has already been developed by Siemens for applications up to 145 kV, a release from Siemens said.

Thyssenkrupp Elevator’s groundbreaking rope-less and sideways-moving elevator, MULTI, has won the 2018 Innovation Award at CTBUH’s first annual Tall + Urban Innovation Conference, which was held during May 30-31, 2018, at the Aqua Tower in Chicago. The Innovation Award winner was selected by an independent panel of experts based on the technology that is expected to have the greatest positive impact on high-rise buildings as well as the people who use these buildings.
Siemens launches SF6-free MV switchgear

Siemens has introduced a medium-voltage switchgear, the 8DAB 12, that does not require sulphur hexafluoride (SF6) as the insulating gas. The system uses clean air consisting only of the natural constituents of ambient air as the insulating gas. The switchgear is a new addition to the 8DA and 8DB product family and also works with the proven vacuum switching technology.
IoT-ready Compact Substations by Reliance Energy

Reliance Energy, the power distribution arm of Reliance Infrastructure Ltd, has institutionalized a process to install only compact IoT (Internet of Things) substations in new projects coming up in its licensee area in Mumbai. Reliance Energy has installed over 180 such substations over the last two years, and hereon, it expects to 100 IoT-enabled compact substations in Mumbai’s suburbs each year. Incidentally, Reliance Energy has become the first power distribution utility in the country to deploy compact indoor substations.
