Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL), on March 28, 2023, launched its efforts to launch energy efficiency measures in the Union Territory of Ladakh.
In collaboration with Power Development Department, District Leh-Ladakh, EESL will replace 40,000 incandescent bulbs of 60W with 10W-LED bulbs for the citizens in the district. These bulbs can help in saving approximately 8.76 million kWh of electricity annually, and help reduce CO2 emissions amounting to 7446 tonnes each year. Additionally, they can help with monetary savings of approximately Rs.3 crore annually, EESL said in a release.
Collaborative effort
Lt Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr.) B D Mishra said, “For Ladakh, achieving carbon neutrality is a development vision which requires a collaborative effort of every individual residing here. Implementing energy efficiency measures in this unique land will go a long way in preserving the ecology of this unique land, which is home to thousands of tourists and citizens alike. After the success of UJALA and the Street Lighting National Programme, we trust that EESL will do a great job in increasing the energy efficiency portfolio of Ladakh and making our citizens more climate-conscious.”
