Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL), has signed an agreement with Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), to demonstrate energy efficiency projects (DEEP) in different industrial units of various sectors.
The agreement is signed under the PAT (Perform, Achieve and Trade) Scheme to improve energy efficiency in the industry sector through demonstration of energy efficient technologies. To execute the project, BEE has provided a grant of Rs.64 crore to EESL for deployment and large-scale implementation of energy efficiency measures in the industry sector.
Phase-I of the project is expected to complete by January 2023.
Under this association, EESL and BEE, under the guidance of Vivek Kumar Dewangan, Additional Secretary and Director General, BEE will collaboratively work towards the demonstration of innovative energy efficiency projects and their upscaling. This will lead to improved productivity and efficient operations, which in turn will enable achievement of sustainability goals.
The project will be implemented in two phases. The first will demonstrate about eight innovative energy efficient technologies in 27 Designated Consumers, while Phase-II will aggregate the demand for the successful demonstrated technologies across the sectors.
Commenting on the partnership, Venkatesh Dwivedi, Group Executive Director, EESL said, “It has become vital to implement energy efficiency solutions across different sectors in order to move towards a sustainable future. This partnership will tap intothe immense potential for energy efficiency in the industrial sector. Our expertise in market transformation of energy efficient technologies and managing the largest energy efficiency programmes, in tandem with policy support from BEE will enable considerable energy savings and environmental benefits.”
Speaking on the partnership, Dr. Ashok Kumar, Deputy Director General, Bureau of Energy Efficiency, said, “We welcome the collaboration with EESL, as their expertise in energy efficiency will help in deploying effective and energy saving projects. This MoU will go a long way in implementing various energy efficiency measures in the PAT sector, while synergising the strength and expertise of both the organisations. We are happy to be part of this energy efficiency endeavour and in contributing in national emission reduction goals under NDCs”.
