The first unit of SJVN’s 60-mw Naitwar Mori hydropower project in Uttarakhand has been synchronized to the National Grid.
In a release, SJVN said that the first unit of the 2×30-mw Naitwar Mori hydropower project in Uttarakhand has achieved National Grid synchronization.
The run-of-river project is located on River Tons, a major tributary of River Yamuna, in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand. The hydropower project is expected to generate 265.5 million kwh of electricity annually.
Grid connectivity has been achieved through a 37-km 220kV transmission line running from the Naitwar Mori project switchyard at Bainol to the network of Himachal Pradesh Power Transmission Corporation Ltd (HPPTCL) at Snail.
According to information available with T&D India, this transmission line was built by KEC International Ltd, for which the letter of acceptance from SJVN was received in April 2021. Construction of the transmission line was stymied by delayed clearance from the Forest Department as the line passed through hilly and dense forest terrain, it is learnt.
Grid connectivity of the second unit of 30-mw is expected to take place later this month.
Other major contractors associated with the project include Voith Hydro Pvt Ltd for the electromechanical package, and GMW for the hydro-mechanical package.
After commissioning of the project, 12 per cent free electricity will be supplied to Uttarakhand as royalty. In addition, each Project Affected Family will be provided with an amount equivalent to cost of 100 kwh of electricity per month for ten years, SJVN said.
