NTPC, in a stock exchange filing, said that the first unit of its 3×660-mw Barh super thermal power project (Stage-1) has completed trial operations.
The filing said that “based on achievement of approved norms and due approvals, Unit-1 of 660 MW capacity of Barh Super Thermal Power Project-Stage-I, (3×660 mw) has successfully completed trial operation and consequently included in the installed capacity of NTPC Ltd
With this, the total installed capacity of NTPC Ltd and NTPC Group has become 54,232.5 mw and 67657.5 mw, respectively. NTPC Group refers to subsidiaries and joint ventures of NTPC.
It may be mentioned that Unit-1 of Barh (Stage-1) was first synchronized to grid on September 27, 2020. The same unit was synchronized to grid again in February, March and April 2021. However, commercial operations of the unit could not be achieved for several reasons including difficulty in mobilization due to pandemic-induced lockdown conditions.

Barauni TPS
NTPC also announced that Unit-2 of the Barauni thermal power plant (Stage-2, 2×250-mw) started commercial operations on November 1, 2021. The Barauni plant, located in Bihar, currently has two units of 110-mw. The second unit of 250-mw of Stage-2 is under construction, it is learnt. Once commissioned, the total operational capacity of the Barauni thermal power plant will reach 720 mw.
Solar capacity commissioned
In recent notifications, NTPC also announced the commissioning of the following solar power capacity:
- 80 mw out of the total 160 mw of the Jetsar solar photovoltaic project in Rajasthan
- 17.5 mw out of the total 100 mw of the Ramagundam floating solar power project in Telangana
