Schneider Electric recently hosted the ground breaking ceremony of its new manufacturing plant at Prospace Industrial Park, in Kolkata.
Covering an area of 9 acres, this new facility will involve an investment of Rs.140 crore. Schneider Electric aims to accelerate and significantly grow its capacity in producing products such as vacuum interrupters and strengthen its power systems vertical through this new factory.
This new facility is planned to be completed by February 2024, with the manufacturing operations expected to start in the second quarter (July to September) of the next financial year, FY25.
According to Deepak Sharma, Zone President (Designate) – Greater India, Schneider Electric & MD and CEO SEIPL (Designate), “Today marks a momentous occasion for the Schneider Electric family. This upcoming world class factory in Kolkata is aimed at accelerating our commitment to ‘Make in India’. We will be investing approximately Rs.140 crore for setting up of this new facility which will enable economic development and job creation in the state.”

Nitin Bakshi, Vice President, Global Supply Chain- India, MEA, SAM & Pacific, Schneider Electric, noted that this new facility will export 50 per cent of the peak volume capacity, meeting the need of customers in India and across the world.
In December 2022, Schneider Electric India announced consolidation of six of its existing factories to launch one of our largest smart factories, globally, in Bengaluru. In September 2022, the company announced groundbreaking of its new smart factory in Hyderabad which upon completion will be Schneider Electric’s second smart factory in the city. The existing smart factory in Hyderabad has been recognized as an “Advanced Lighthouse” by the World Economic Forum, Schneider Electric said.
