Hitachi Energy India Ltd has received a major order from a group entity in Australia, the company said in a stock exchange notification.
Hitachi Energy India Ltd informed that it has received an order worth around Rs.790 crore from Hitachi Energy Australia Pty Ltd, a fellow subsidiary of the company.
The order is towards execution of the Marinus Link project in Australia that envisages VSC-HVDC links between Tasmania and Victoria. Hitachi Energy India said that the order entails supply of certain equipment related to the Burnie Converter Station and the Latrobe Converter Station, and is scheduled to be executed over a period of four years.
Marinus Link Pty Ltd selected Hitachi Energy to supply a HVDC project in Australia. Hitachi Energy will supply its HVDC Light® VSC stations for the project. Delivery of certain equipment will be executed from the Hitachi Energy India’s local factory.
Marinus Link is a project of national significance for Australia. It will play a fundamental role in Australia’s energy ecosystem, and the Hitachi Energy India will play a crucial role in supporting it, the communication said.
Order placed in May 2024
According to information officially released by Marinus Link Pty Ltd (MLPL), the company, in May 2024, announced that it had selected Hitachi Energy to supply a high-voltage direct current (HVDC) project of national significance, which will augment the connection between mainland Australia and Tasmania’s grid.
The approximately 345-km cable route HVDC system will enable the flow of renewable power in both directions between the Victorian and Tasmanian states. For the first time in Australia, Marinus Link will use advanced converter technology at both ends of the link to stabilise and integrate more and more renewables into the power grid.
Upon completion of both project stages, Marinus Link will have a total capacity of 1,500 MW, equal to the power needed for 1.5 million Australian homes.
MLPL is a three-way joint venture between the Australian Government (equity stake: 49 per cent), the Victorian Government (33.3 per cent) and the Tasmanian Government (17.7 per cent).
