Central government undertaking ITI Ltd announced that it has commissioned its first captive rooftop solar plant – a 100kW installation at its Lucknow regional office, ITI Bhawan, in Gomti Nagar, Uttar Pradesh.
A highlighting achievement has been that this clean-energy plant was entirely equipped with solar panels manufactured by ITI Ltd at its Naini facility in Prayagraj district, Uttar Pradesh. A total of 308 solar panels were deployed in the new installation, it is learnt.
Commissioned by ITI’s engineers, the rooftop solar plant was inaugurated by Rakesh Mohan Agarwal, Chairman & Managing Director, ITI Ltd.

ITI has planned to set up similar solar plants, with individual capacities ranging from 300kW to 1.5 mw at its other locations like Naini, Rae Bareli, Mankapur (Gonda), Pallakad and Bengaluru. These plants are scheduled to commission within the ongoing fiscal year, FY22, ITI said in a statement.
Currently, work is underway at setting up the following captive solar plants – Bengaluru corporate office (100 kW), Rae Bareli (1.5 mw), Manakpuri (1.2 mw), Bengaluru (1.2 mw), Palakkad (1.2 mw) and Naini (300 kW).
Adopting renewable energy
Speaking on the occasion, Agarwal said, “With the installation of this 100-kW solar plant, the estimated reduction in CO2 emission is almost 110 tonnes per year. Installing a roof-top solar plant has become a very viable solution to secure against the ever increasing cost of power. India is at an inflection point in transitioning to renewables and ITI would like to contribute by adopting renewable energy for economic and environmental benefits.”
Apart from setting up captive solar power plants to offset grid electricity consumption, ITI is also endeavouring to take up orders for external clients. To this effect, ITI Ltd is developing necessary in-house expertise and has created a team of competent engineers and technicians for its solar power initiatives, a company statement said.
