Jakson Green to build methanol plant for NTPC

Jakson Green has won a project from NTPC Ld to establish a methanol synthesis facility at Vindhyachal, Madhya Pradesh

The upcoming methanol plant with a production capacity of 10 TPD (tonnes per day) will be set up at NTPC’s Vindhyachal superthermal power station in Madhya Pradesh.

The methanol production unit is being designed to convert 20 TPD CO2 (carbon dioxide) to 10 TPD methanol through a catalytic hydrogenation process, utilizing CO2 from thermal plant flue gas through a carbon capture unit, and green hydrogen produced by electrolysis.

Methanol is a cleaner alternative fuel that can be used for various purposes, including power generation and transportation.

Project scope

Jakson Green will oversee the entire design, engineering, procurement, and construction of this project on a turnkey basis, in partnership with NTPC and their leading Japanese technology provider for the methanol synthesis process. Jakson Green will establish the plant on a fast-track basis and is confident that the project’s success will pave the way for more such projects in the coming future.

Transition to a low-carbon economy

Elaborating more on the project, Mr. BikeshOgra, CEO & Managing Director, Jakson Green Pvt Ltd said, “We believe that methanol production is a key element in India’s transition to a low-carbon economy, and we are proud to be at the forefront of the movement. We are thankful to NTPC for giving us an opportunity to partner with them in developing this useful Hydrocarbon and propagating its widespread use for a cleaner and greener world. We are confident that this methanol synthesis plant built in association with NTPC will strengthen India’s vision of becoming a methanol economy, which will, in turn, reduce India’s dependence on crude oil imports and mitigate the pollution.”

NTPC Vindhyachal

NTPC’s Vindhyachal super thermal power station, located in the Singrauli district of Madhya Pradesh, is believed to be India’s largest thermal power generation plant, at a single location. Currently, the 4,760-MW coal-fired power plant has 10 units (six of 210 MW and four of 500 MW) commissioned in three stages between October 1987 and August 2015.
