The Heavy Engineering arm of Larsen & Toubro, flagged-off the fourth steam generator for the Gorakhpur Haryana Anu Vidyut Pariyojana (GHAVP) in Haryana.
GHAVP is a project by Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd (NPCIL) involving the use of indigenously-designed pressurized heavy water reactors (PHWR) of 700 MWe rating.
The flag-off ceremony took place at L&T’s state-of-the-art Heavy Engineering Complex located at Hazira near Surat, in the presence of dignitaries from NPCIL and L&T.
The entire order was completed six months ahead of schedule creating a global benchmark in the nuclear manufacturing industry despite the COVID-19 pandemic, a release by L&T said.
Steam generators are heat exchangers which convert water into steam using the heat produced in a nuclear reactor core. It acts as a boundary between radiated and outside environment in a PHWR.
Expressing his view on the achievement, Anil V. Parab, Member- L&T Executive Committee, Senior Vice President and Head, L&T Heavy Engineering, said “We thank NPCIL for having entrusted L&T with the opportunity to be part of India’s nuclear power program since its inception.
