The Power Transmission & Distribution (PTD) division of Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has won an order to provide a dynamic reactive power compensator system for a 220kV substation in Abu Dhabi.
In a release, L&T said that the scope of this order, placed by an unnamed client, includes related protection, substation control and monitoring system (SCMS), 220kV cables and associated civil, mechanical, and electrical works.
L&T also said that to enhance the grid stability and provide voltage support, specialized equipment such as STATCOMs /SVCs are deployed in substations. [STATCOM = STATic synchronous COMpensator; SVC = Static VAr Compensator)
This order in Abu Dhabi formed part of a slew of domestic and overseas orders landed by L&T’s PTD business. Some others are:
- Orders to construct 380kV overhead transmission lines, 132kV network connections and a 400kV substation
- Order to build a new 220kV GIS substation in Bangladesh
- Mandates to create power distribution infrastructure in two circle areas of Bengaluru, Karnataka
- Additional orders in ongoing substation and transmission line projects
