The Heavy Engineering arm of Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has won an order for supplying 12 steam generators to Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd (NPCIL).
In a stock exchange communication, L&T said that the order of unspecified value involves supply of 12 steam generators for the 3×700 MWe pressurized heavy water reactor (PHWR).
This order strengthens L&T’s position as a key nuclear power equipment supplier for Government of India’s fleet-mode procurement program, L&T said. The order was booked in Q4 (January to March) of FY21.
The nuclear fleet-mode programme involves construction of ten units of 700 MWe PHWRs with indigenous technology. The critical equipment of the nuclear island of a nuclear power plant includes steam generators, reactor headers and pressurizers.
It may be mentioned that in Q3 of FY21, L&T had bagged the fleet order for supplying reactor headers and pressurizers for Unit 1 and Unit 2 of Gorakhpur Haryana Anu Vidyut Pariyojana (GHAVP). For the same project, L&T recently dispatched the first of the four 700 MWe steam generators and the first reactor-end shield. The dispatch was done within 36 months, despite COVID-related disruptions, L&T said.
L&T Heavy Engineering has state-of-the-art, fully integrated, world-class manufacturing facilities at Hazira (Surat, Gujarat), Powai (Mumbai) and Vadodara (Gujarat). The heavy engineering business of L&T has a proven track record of supplying technology-intensive equipment and systems to global customers in nuclear power, apart from core industries like petroleum refining, oil & gas, petrochemicals and fertilizers.
