What are pooling substations?

As the country’s power generation evolves, large renewable energy (RE) zones are being developed that house several solar and wind projects from various developers in contiguous land parcels. The power generated from such individual projects is collected at pooling substations, located in the vicinity, and then redistributed to intrastate and interstate transmission networks, the L&T release explained.

Note: The L&T release has not specified the names of the entities placing the aforementioned orders or their total value. However, based on the nomenclature adopted by L&T, the orders fall in the “significant” category implying that the total order value is in the range Rs.1,000 crore to Rs.2,500 crore.
