In what could be the first such episode in recent history, the state transmission utilities of Madhya Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh held high-level talks where the two shared their experience and expertise.
Madhya Pradesh Power Transmission Company Ltd (MPPTCL), in an official release, said that Transmission Corporation of Andhra Pradesh Ltd (APTransco) showed keen interest in the various innovations and technologies adopted by the MP utility.
During the meeting of the two utilities – held via video-conferencing – discussions were held on the transmission system in which much information and experience was exchanged, MPPTCL said.
The senior management of MPPTCL was directed to hold two-way discussions with its counterparts from other states, with a view to enriching operations from mutual sharing of experience. MPPTCL was especially directed to adopt state-of-the-art technologies being adopted by other transmission utilities.
The meeting between MP and AP utilities was made possible by the effort put in by MPPTCL’s Superintending Engineer Devashish Chakraborty, the MPPTCL release observed
Among other innovations and reforms done by MPPTCL, APTransco showed special interest in the drone system being used by the MP utility in patrolling of transmission lines. Officials of APTransco sought cooperation from its MP counterpart in developing a similar system for deployment in the southern state.
APTransco also showed great interest in understanding the functioning of the load dispatch centre (LDC) at Jabalpur, which is regarded as the country’s best LDC. MPPTCL Chief Engineer S.S. Patel briefed APTransco officials about various aspects of the Jabalpur LDC – its monitoring, integration of renewable energy into the grid, SCADA and cyber security systems.

On the other hand, MPPTCL gained experience when APTransco shared its experience about the challenges faced in maintenance of cables used in the EHV transmission system of Andhra Pradesh.
