Madhya Pradesh Power Transmission Company Ltd (MPPTCL) recently energized a power transformer at the 400kV Bhopal substation.
In a release, MPPTCL said that the transformer was energized ahead of schedule, keeping in mind the potential additional load demand in Bhopal and surrounding areas during the upcoming rabi season.
The 400kV, 500 MVA power transformer was commissioned, with an outlay of Rs.25 crore, at the 400kV Suky Sewaniya (Bhopal) substation.
On this achievement, State Energy Minister Pradyuman Singh Tomar and Additional Chief Secretary Energy Manu Srivastava congratulated the officers/employees of MPPTCL associated with this work, the release noted.
With the installation of this transformer, apart from the urban and industrial areas of Bhopal, Bairagarh, Vidisha, Ganjabsoda, Shujalpur, Mughaliyachhap will get full benefit in this Rabi season
In addition, areas like Ashta and Ujjain will also get support from the Sukhy Sevaniya (Bhopal) 400kV sub station, if needed.
The 400kV, 500 MVA power transformer was customized to suit the Bhopal substation. In normal course, a conventional 315 MVA would have been installed but this specially-designed transformer has resulted in 185 MVA of additional transformation capacity. With 500 MVA becoming available by this new transformer, the total transformation capacity of the Bhopal substation now stands enhanced to 1,630 MVA.
In Bhopal district. MPPTCL transmits power from its 18 substations, which include one 400lV, four of 220kV and 13 of 132kV rating. With the energization of this transformer, the total transformation capacity of Bhopal district has risen to 4,463 MVA.
The new Bhopal transformer has taken MPPTCL’s total transformation capacity to above 80 GVA; the figure now stands at 80,484 MVA. The state transmission utility has a total of 416 substations equipped with 1,021 transformers – across the 132kV, 220kV and 400kV voltage categories. (See table above)
