MPPTCL energizes state’s first 220kV, 50 MVAR bus reactor

State utility Madhya Pradesh Power Transmission Company Ltd (MPPTCL or MPTransco) has energized the state’s first 220kV, 50 MVAR bus reactor, according to an official release.

The release observed that MPPTCL has succeeded in installing and energizing the state’s first 50 MVAR capacity bus reactor at the utility’s 220kV Pandhurna substation in Chhindwara district.

Energy Minister of Madhya Pradesh Pradyuman Singh Tomar congratulated all the related personnel of MPTransco for this achievement and said that interstate power transmission will be facilitated after the energization of this reactor that was commissioned at a cost of around Rs.8.57 core. He noted that it was for the first time in Madhya Pradesh that a reactor of 50 MVAR capacity was energized on a 220kV bus.

This 50 MVAR bus reactor was manufactured by Transformers & Rectifiers (India) Ltd for Madhya Pradesh Power Transmission Company, the release said.

Positive impact

Thanks to this new bus reactor, grid discipline can be easily followed. Interstate power exchange from Maharashtra can be controlled through the 220kV line between Pandhurna substation in Madhya Pradesh and the Kalameshwar substation of Maharashtra.

Also, with the energization of this reactor, the 132kV substations at Multai and Borgaon connected to Pandhurna will also be benefited. The problem of high voltage at the two 132kV, seen in the event of low load, will now be addressed.

Special effort

To save the Madhya Pradesh Power Transmission Company from paying possible penalty due to reactive power feed and to solve the problem of high voltage in the area, Sanjeev Srivastava, Superintending Engineer, MPPTCL, designed and developed this reactor, which was used for the first time in the state. Special effort was made in preparing the tender process that incorporated innovative technical parameters.
