Adani Electricity Mumbai Ltd (AEML) has created a record of sorts by supplying, in entirety, green electricity to its consumers.
In a release, AEML said that for a four-hour period from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm on November 12, 2023, the entire supply of electricity came from renewable energy sources like solar and wind.
“For the very first time in history, 3 million households and establishments, comprising over 12 million Mumbaikars, were powered entirely by “clean” renewable energy sources. This monumental achievement underscores our dedication to sustainable development and responsible environmental practices,” AEML said in a statement.
RE target
By 2027, AEML has pledged to deliver 60 per cent of its electricity from renewable energy sources. In 2023, the Adani Group utility met up to 38 per cent of its consumers’ electricity requirements from renewable sources.
Auspicious beginning
Adani Electricity crossed this historic milestone on the auspicious day of Diwali, marking a significant step in its journey towards a sustainable future, the utility said. “Today, we illuminate not only homes but also hearts as we celebrated the festival of lights with a promise of a cleaner and brighter future,” the release said.
Mumbai’s energy transition
Expressing his delight on the milestone, Kandarp Patel, Managing Director of Adani Electricity, said, “Achieving 100% renewable energy is a first and a significant milestone in Mumbai’s energy transition, demonstrating that renewables can significantly power Mumbai city with reliable and sustainable electricity at competitive tariffs.”
