The National Committee on Transmission (NCT), in its most recent meeting, has approved two ISTS schemes to be implemented under the tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) route while clearing one under the regulated tariff mechanism (RTM) modality.
In its latest meeting held on March 5, 2024, NCT has approved two interstate transmission system (ISTS) schemes, to be developed under the TBCB route.
The broad details of these two projects are:
Scheme: Augmentation of transformation capacity at Jam Khambhaliya Pooling Station (GIS)
Location: Gujarat
Tentative cost: Rs.310 crore
Bid process coordinator: REC Power Development & Consultancy Ltd (RECPDCL)
Implementation timeframe: 18-21 months
Scheme: Transmission scheme for integration of Tumkur-II REZ in Karnataka
Location: Karnataka
Tentative cost: Rs.465 crore
Bid process coordinator: PFC Consulting Ltd (PFCCL)
Implementation timeframe: 24 months
Scheme #1 discussed above mainly involves development of a new 220kV bus section (the second) at the existing Jam Khambhaliya GIS pooling station (PS) in Gujarat. The transformation capacity of this PS will be augmented by 2×500 MVA, 400/220kV interconnecting transformers (ICT), which will be the fifth and sixth at the pooling station. These ICTs will be terminated at the new 220kV bus section.
Scheme #2 entails the setting up of a new 4×500 MVA, 400/220kV pooling station near Tumkur in Karnataka, and a 400kV double-circuit line (route length: 27 km) from this pooling station to the existing Tumkur (Pavagada) substation.
It may be noted that NCT has given final approval for the aforementioned two TBCB schemes. In addition, NCT has recommended the implementation of five projects under the TBCB mode, to the Union power ministry for final clearance. The aggregate value of these projects is around Rs.16,500 crore. T&D India will be discussing these projects in separate story soon.
NCT also approved one ISTS scheme to be implemented under the RTM mode by Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. This Rs.115-crore project involves augmentation of transformation capacity at the existing Karur pooling station in Tamil Nadu by adding two ICTs (the third and fourth at the PS) of 500 MVA, 400/230kV each.
