NTPC recently signed a supplementary joint venture agreement with Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd (NPCIL) for the development of nuclear power projects.
According to a government release, the proposed joint venture will initially develop two pressurized heavy water reactor (PHWR)-based projects – Chutka Madhya Pradesh Atomic Power Project (2×700-mw) and Mahi Banswara Rajasthan Atomic Power Project (4×700-MW).
These two projects have been identified as part of fleet-mode nuclear projects, whereby main plant equipment will be procured in bulk.
This supplementary joint venture agreement marks a pivotal step for NTPC Ltd. and NPCIL to collaborate and cooperate in the field of development of nuclear power projects which shall help the country in meeting its Clean Energy Commitments to achieve a net zero emission target by 2070, the release said.
The agreement was signed by Ujjwal Kanti Bhattacharya, Director Projects, NTPC Ltd. and Ranjay Sharan, Director Projects, NPCIL in the presence of R.K. Singh, Minister of Power, New & Renewable Energy, K.N. Vyas, Secretary DAE & Chairman Atomic Energy Commission, Alok Kumar, Secretary, Ministry of Power, Gurdeep Singh, CMD, NTPC, BC Pathak, CMD, NPCIL and senior officials of the Ministry of Power and Department of Atomic Energy. Group capacity crosses 72 GW
In an independent development, NTPC, in a recent stock exchange communication, announced that the installed and commercial capacity of NTPC Group has reached 72,304 MW. This was achieved after the inclusion of 660 MW of new capacity from the 2×660-MW Maitree Super Thermal Power Plant (MSTPP) at Rampal, Mongla, Bagerhat in Bangladesh. This project is being set up Bangladesh-India Friendship Power Company Pvt Ltd (BIFPCL) — NTPC’s 50:50 foreign joint venture with Bangladesh Power Development Board. The said unit began commercial operations on December 23, 2022. NTPC Group refers to NTPC Ltd, along with its subsidiaries and joint ventures.
