NTPC Renewable Energy Ltd (NTPC REL) has received the letter of award for 325 mw worth of solar power projects in Madhya Pradesh.
In a statement, NTPC-REL said that it has received the letter of award for two projects aggregating 325 mw in the auction conducted by Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Ltd.
The letter of award was presented by Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan, and was received by Mohit Bhargava, CEO, NTPC-REL, the release said.
Along with NTPC-REL, letters of award were also given away to other developers, selected on the basis of the tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) mechanism. It is learnt that a total of 1,500 mw worth of solar capacity was awarded, to be developed at solar parks spread across Agar, Shajapur and Neemuch. Collectively, this is referred to as the Ajar-Shajapur-Neemuch Solar Park. Generation from this park will be purchased by various discoms in Madhya Pradesh, and Indian Railways. With the Shajapur solar auction, NTPC has cumulatively won 4.4 GW of solar capacity under the TBCB mode..
A total of 450 mw was auctioned under the Shajapur component, out of which NTPC-REL won the 325 mw under discussion. In the case of NTPC-REL, one project worth 105 mw was won at a tariff of Rs.2.35 per kwh, while the remaining 220 mw was clinched at a tariff of Rs.2.33 per kwh.
Incorporated in 2015, Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Ltd (RUMSL) is a joint venture between Madhya Pradesh Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd (MPUVN), and Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI). RUMSL has been designated as solar power park developer (SPPD) by Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) to develop large-scale solar parks in Madhya Pradesh. RUMSL is developing solar parks under MNRE’s Ultra Mega Renewable Energy Power Projects (UMREPP) scheme.
RUMSL has two parks in operation – Rewa (750 mw, fully operational since January 2020) and Mandsaur (250 mw, operational since September 2017). The 1,500-mw Agar-Shajapur-Neemuch is currently under implementation, while solar parks in the planning stage cover Omkareshwar (600 mw, floating solar), Chattarpur (1,500 mw) and Morena (1,400 mw).
The 750-mw Rewa Solar Park is believed to be amongst the largest single-location solar power project in the world. It was co-developed with capacity of 250 mw each, by Mahindra Renewables, ACME Jaipur Solar and Arinsun Clean Energy.
