Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) has commissioned over 500 ckm of transmission lines in April 2021, according to latest government statistics.
PGCIL has commissioned an aggregate of 519 ckm of transmission lines and 1,715 MVA of substation capacity in April 2021, official statistics indicate.
The most important line commissioned in April 2021 was the Rajasthan-located 765kV Ajmer-Phagi (double- circuit) line spanning 268 ckm. This line connecting PGCIL’s substation at Ajmer to Phagi substation of the state power transmission utility RRVPNL was an important constituent of the 765kV Ajmer-Phagi transmission scheme that aims to evacuate electricity from solar farms in Rajasthan. PGCIL is developing this scheme, now fully commissioned, under the TBCB modality. (Read more).
PGCIL also commissioned two other transmission lines in April 2021, which are:
- 400kV Darbhanga-Sitamarhi D/C line (second circuit) [80 ckm]
- 400kV D/C Sitamarhi (New) –Motihari [171 ckm]
Both these lines are important constituents of the Eastern Region System Strengthening Scheme (ERSS) – XXI and have brought the scheme closer to overall completion. ERSS-XXI aims to strengthen the power transmission system in Bihar through 500 ckm of 400kV lines and three new substations. PGCIL is developing ERSS-XXI, once again, through the TBCB route.
Substations
Speaking of transformation capacity, PGCIL’s biggest achievement in April 2021 was the commissioning of the 1,400MVA Sitamarhi substation (400/220/132kV) in Bihar. This substation too is an important element of ERSS-XXI. It marks the completion of two of the three new substations planned under the transmission scheme. Work on one new substation, as well as extension work on two existing substations, is currently underway.
