PGCIL commissions Ramgarh ISTS scheme in Rajasthan

 

 

Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) has commissioned an interstate transmission system (ISTS) scheme in Rajasthan, which it had won under the tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) mechanism.

In a brief stock exchange filing, PGCIL said that on December 20, 2023, it fully commissioned the transmission scheme, officially denoted as ““Transmission system strengthening scheme for evacuation of power from solar energy zones in Rajasthan (8.1 GW) under Phase II – Part A.”

According to information available with T&D India, this transmission scheme has been housed under project SPV “Powergrid Ramgarh Transmission Ltd” that was known as “Ramgarh New Transmission Ltd” when it was incorporated by bid process coordinator REC Power Development & Consultancy Ltd (RECPDCL).

 

This transmission scheme is part of an overall plan of evacuating 8.1 GW of solar energy from Rajasthan spread over Bhadla (1.05 GW), Fatehgarh (2.2 GW), Ramgarh (1.9 GW) and Bikaner (2.95 GW) solar energy zones.

 

The major elements of this project included:

 

PGCIL won this project, estimated to cost around Rs.350 crore, by quoting a tariff of Rs.39.053 crore and acquired the project SPV on March 9, 2021. By original plans, the project was scheduled for completion by December 2022.

 

Other related schemes

It may be noted that the project “Transmission system strengthening scheme for evacuation of power from solar energy zones in Rajasthan (8.1 GW) under Phase II” has three parts denoted as Part A, B and C.

PGCIL is developing Part B and Part C as well; both are currently under construction. The respective project SPVs are: Powergrid Bhadla Transmission Ltd and Powergrid Sikar Transmission Ltd.
