Responding to a call by the Nagaland government, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) commissioned a transformer in the northeastern, within just two days.
A government release said that to reduce the instances of power interruptions and to ensure efficient power supply to Nagaland’s only oxygen plant, the Nagaland state government and the Department of Power, Nagaland, urged PGCIL to commission a power transformer at the Referral Hospital substation, at Dimapur.
Responding swiftly to the call, PGCIL commissioned a 10-MVA transformer within just two days. The transformer was pressed into service at 19:30 hours on May 22, 2021. The transformer is expected to facilitate reliable power supply to the oxygen plant and neighbouring areas.
“PGCIL is working proactively 24×7 to ensure reliable supply of power during the pandemic through its transmission network,” a government statement said.
Replacement
The new 33/11kV power transformer at the Referral Hospital substation will add to the power system reliability of BMA Liquid Air’s oxygen plant situated at Naga United village, which was earlier fed by 5 MVA transformer. By commissioning the transformer, quality power is now available to oxygen plant round-the-clock through 11kV outgoing Rongmei feeder of the substation.
Part of NERPSIP
This work was completed by POWERGRID engineers during the strict lockdown following COVID-19 protocols, as part of the North Eastern Region Power System Improvement Project (NERPSIP). NERPSIP is a Central sector plan scheme of the Ministry of Power, Government of India, envisioned to drive economic development of the North Eastern region of the country.
NERPSIP is being implemented through PGCIL, in association with six beneficiary northeastern states — Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Tripura. The main objective of the project is the total economic development of the North Eastern Region and to strengthen its intrastate power T&D infrastructure.
