Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) has won an interstate transmission system (ISTS) scheme relating to the Kurnool III Pooling Station (PS) in Andhra Pradesh, under the tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) framework.
In a brief stock exchange filing, PGCIL said that it received the letter of intent for an ISTS-TBCB scheme formally known as “Transmission system strengthening at Kurnool III PS for integration of additional RE generation projects,” on March 6, 2025.
As reported by T&D India on March 4, 2025, bid process coordinator PFC Consulting Ltd (PFCCL) has shortlisted bidders for five ISTS-TBCB schemes, including the Kurnool III scheme that has now gone to PGCIL. The results of the remaining four schemes are expected soon.
Here are details of the Kurnool III scheme, based on information available with T&D India.
Project SPV: Kurnool III PS RE Transmission Ltd
Scheme: Transmission system strengthening at Kurnool III PS for integration of additional RE generation projects
Bid process coordinator: PFC Consulting Ltd
Location: Andhra Pradesh
Estimated cost: Rs.2,886 crore
Other bidders: Adani Energy Solutions Ltd, Tata Power, Resonia (formerly Sterlite Power) and Megha Engineering & Infrastructures Ltd.
The Kurnool III scheme involves augmentation of the Kurnool III PS through four ICTs of 1500 MVA, 765/400kV. Besides, a 765kV double-circuit line of 260 km from Kurnool III PS to Chilakaluripeta (C’peta) substation is also part of the project. The project will come up under three packages. The project also involves putting up of eight 400kV lines bays at Kurnool III PS for termination of dedicated transmission lines of RE producers like Adani Renewable Energy and Indosol Solar.
It may be noted that the underlying Kurnool III PS (765/400/220kV, 3×1500 MVA, 9×500 MVA) is being developed by PGCIL under a separate project on RTM (regulated tariff mechanism) basis. The project also involves 765kV double-circuit lines, connecting Kurnool III PS to Kurnool (New) and Maheshwaram substations.
PGCIL, on March 3, 2025, was issued the letter of intent of another related ISTS-TBCB scheme “Kurnool-IV Transmission Ltd.” (See full story)
