Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCIL) has been declared as the successful bidder for a transmission scheme involving evacuation from solar energy zones in Rajasthan. This is in addition to two similar projects that the Central PSU won a few days ago.
In a recent stock exchange filing, PGCIL said that the project is official termed as “Transmission system strengthening scheme for evacuation of power from solar energy zones in Rajasthan (8.1 GW) under Phase II – Part C”.
The transmission system comprises establishment of a new 765/400kV substation, 765kV and 400kV (both double-circuit) transmission lines and associated substation extension works. The letter of intent was handed over to PGCIL on February 1, 2021.
PGCIL to develop Part A and Part B also
It may be recalled that in the recent past, PGCIL had clinched Part A and Part B of the aforementioned project. Both the projects will be developed under the build, own, operate and maintain (BOOM) model. The letters of intent of both the projects were issued to PGCIL on January 29, 2021.
According to information independently available, REC Ltd (formerly, Rural Electrification Corporation Ltd) is the nodal agency for both the aforementioned projects. REC had invited bids for these three projects in December 2020.
Overall scheme
The entire transmission scheme (Parts A, B and C) involves setting up of evacuation infrastructure for 8.1 GW worth of solar parks/complexes coming up in Rajasthan. These are Bikaner (2.95 GW), Fatehgarh (2.2 GW), Ramgarh (1.9 GW) and Bhadla (1.05 GW).
For integration and evacuation of power from generation projects in the above areas, a high capacity 765kV and 400kV transmission system interconnecting substations at Bhadla-II, Fatehgarh-II, Sikar and Khetri has been planned. The overall project also involves establishment of new 765/400kV substations at Sikar-II and Narela, and new 400/220kV substations at Bikaner-II and Ramgarh-II.
The special purpose vehicle for Part A of the project is Ramgarh New Transmission Ltd and that for Part B is Fatehgarh Bhadla Transco Ltd. The SPV for Part C is Sikar New Transmission Ltd.
